About Sandra & Heart for Him

in the Every Day
"Grace be with all who love our Lord Jesus Christ with love incorruptible." Ephesians 6:24

I have been a ruler-follower my entire life. In fact, my family nickname is "The Perfect One" (thanks to my younger sister). Like Paul in Philippians 3:4-6, I have a resume of good works and trying hard. But with "perfection" comes pride. And with pride comes entitlement. And with entitlement comes disappointment. And with disappointment comes a wake-up call. The only cure for perfection, pride, entitlement and disappointment is humility. Humility says with Paul, "But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ" (Phil. 3:7).

When I reached a point of humility, I was met with grace. Grace I didn't earn. I saw grace as the snow melted and the tulips bloomed. I heard grace in the prayers of my five year old son. Grace came in the mail as a donation to our adoption fund. Grace helps meet the special needs of my four year old son. Grace unloads the dishwasher and folds the laundry when I can't take another step.

Once you meet grace, you want more. It comes again in those moments of humility, when you preach the gospel to yourself--"I am a sinner and I need a Savior." This blog captures the glimpses of grace that come in the every day of life. Grace from God. Grace from others. And hopefully, even times when the Holy Spirit works in me to show grace.

I'm excited to make this transition with you. One from a life of rule-following to grace-receiving. By grace I have been saved, and now by grace I will live.
