Favorite Books of 2009

Know what else I love about December? It's time for all the "favorites" lists! Favorite music, favorite blog posts, favorite celebrity baby names... the list goes on and on! Time Magazine even has The Top 10 of Everything 2009 list! It includes everything from top video games to top 10 apologies!

Here's my list of Favorite Books of 2009! I didn't get to 52, but I read enough to have favorites!  (Disclaimer- this isn't a list of my favorite books that came out in 2009, but books that I read in 2009!)

1. Respectable Sins by Jerry Bridges
2. Stepping Heavenward by Elizabeth Prentiss
3. "Don't Make Me Count to Three!" by Ginger Plowman
4. Adopted for Life by Dr. Russell Moore
5. Forgotten God by Francis Chan
6. Spectacular Sins by John Piper
7. Women Leading Women by Jaye Martin and Terri Stovall
8. Radical Womanhood by Carolyn McCulley
9. Jesus and the Feminists: Who Do They Say That He Is? by Margaret Elizabeth Kostenberger
10. Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen

Here are more favorite book lists! (I'll continue to update the list as more people post their favorites!)
  • from Dr. Bob Kellemen  (I really want to read his #1- Counsel from the Cross, by Elyse Fitzpatrick, Dennis Johnson)
  • from Tim Challies (I need to add Gospel Powered Parenting to my list for next year!)
  • from Trevin Wax  (click here to enter by Dec. 25th to win his favorite books, plus an ESV Study Bible and his upcoming book!
  • from Keith Mathison (significant books of 2009)
  •  from Kevin DeYoung (Clearly I need to read Finally Alive by Piper. It keeps popping up on lists!)
  • from Russell D. Moore (be sure to click on the links he provides so you can see why each book made his list!)

Sandra,
I think we might just share a love of the same kinds of books! Thanks for this list. Some I've read, others I have on my own list to read soon.

Counsel from the Cross is fantastic! You've got some great titles here; I also really liked Spectacular Sins and Radical Womanhood. And any list with Jane Austen on it? well done! :-)

Lisa- I was trying to incorporate some classics this year! I have a whole shelf full from my English major/English teaching days and I haven't read all of them. Not sure when I'll attempt Moby Dick though!
